Here are some helpful facts and tips:

  • Entry: Ants can enter cracks, seeking water and sweet food substances in the kitchen pantry & storeroom areas.
  • Scent trails: Ants leave an invisible trail for others to follow as they locate the food source.
  • Nest locations: They can nest about anywhere in walls cracks, stumps, even under foundations.
  • Colony size: Colonies can number up to 400,000 to 600,000 whole colonies can relocate quickly when threatened effectively.
  • Colony Lifetime: A colony can live a relatively long lifetime. Worker ants may live 6 years, and the queen may live as long as 16 years.
  • Do it yourself ineffectiveness: Effective treatments can eradicate nests to help prevent ants from returning. Home remedies don’t eradicate them for the fact that different kinds of ant colonies require different treatments.

  • Appearance:  It’s black in color, about 1/10 inches long.
  • Diet: Eats anything, food, water etc. (sugary food).
  • Habits:  Usually containing hundreds of thousands. They travel in trails leaving a scent trail so the colony can follow once food is found.
  • Solution:  interior and exterior treatments.

  • Appearance: Red in color about 1/4 inches long. Queens live up to 6 years while workers live about 7 months.
  • Diet: Eats sweet/sugary or greasy food and can eat meat.
  • Habits: Large colonies can nest several inches up to fifteen inches or more in diameter & are Very aggressive and will bite and sting.
  • Solution: interior and exterior treatments.

  • Appearance:  Approximately 1/4 to 1/8 inches long & Worker ants have large mandibles
  • Diet: Feed on insects also likes foods that are sweet/ sugary and some meats.
  • Habits: Nest in dead trees & stumps and woodpiles. Colonies several thousand workers and can be difficult to control.
  • Solution: interior and exterior, attic dusting and ornamental treatments.

Ant Facts & Tips for business owners/Homeowners

  • Keep food in air tight containers instead of opened bags & boxes also cupboards clean.
  • Empty garbage on a regular basis, especially if kept under the kitchen sink.
  • Take care of moisture problems in & around the premises.
  • Remove any wood piles, dead trees or stumps from your yard. This only attracts & invites ants.
  • Keep trees & bushes trimmed.
  • Check plants that ants are attracted to bird and plants that have nectar before bring them inside the house.
  • Clear around the outside of door frames, windows frames and water pipes as they prefer these entry points.
